My Poor Muppet Shows
Knowing that the Hensons were buying the rights back to the Muppets,
Darin made it his duty to present them with some new ideas (little did
he know that they would sell them right to Disney a few months later).

Of course, Darin was overjoyed to share his ideas and present three new animated TV
shows to the creative minds at Henson. -It was as he puts it “the best day of my life” -
naturally, since he’s still got his original Muppet Show Fan Club certificate from 1978.

Although the meeting went great, Darin was told a week later that Brian Henson didn’t
want to do animation. -Well, that was fine because Darin still has his memories of his
day at the Henson Headquarters. -But here for your curiosity are the three Animated Muppet
shows that were presented that day:

Waiting For Kermit
Taking place during the years before
Kermit the Frog showed up, this show focuses on each individual muppet in the confusing
time of their lives before a certain frog straightened it all out for them - taking
them on the road to fame and fortune.

Muppets 75
Ever notice how easily the muppets got
that “standard rich and famous contract”
from Orson Wells at the end of
The Muppet Movie? Well, it’s made
clear here - just two seconds after
the film ended: Wells was an escaped
lunatic posing as a movie exec who gets captured by guys in white coats and taken back to the asylum. This leaves our
muppets on the streets of Hollywood,
penniless, broken and trying
to get by in the 1970’s.

American Mayhem
The ghost of Dave Brubek visits Dr. Teeth in
a dream and tells him to give rock & roll back
to the kids of the US. They’ve been ruined by
too many “boy bands and barbie dolls”. So, the
Mayhem takes to the roads of America, touring
from town to town delivering the message
of post hippy rock & roll - finding a new
problem in each town they visit.
